My Big Hair, Big Glasses, Big Romance

This was me in an office interview at Chevron USA in New Orleans in the late 1980’s, back when I was getting ready to move to Houston with my then fiance’. It’s hard to believe now, but that hair, those glasses, and the shoulder pads were in fashion at the time. My hair was bigger partially because of the infamous NOLA humidity, but mostly by design.

What would I tell me, my 1980’s self? Be prepared for change and heartache, but also be ready to meet the love of your life, the father of your future children, the man who will make your heart go pitty-pat. The one who’ll love you despite your disorganized brain, your crazy Irish temper, and past all the ups and downs life will throw you during over 24 years of marriage.

To notĀ forget to kiss and hug goodnight, hold hands, always put down your cell phone and the tv remote. Sit together and unwind together at the end of the day, and remember to treasure him always.

From my 2015 self.
